PHILADELPHIA, PA — Anybody that’s been in a band knows about all the bass player jokes.
Q: What do you call someone who hangs around with musicians?
A: A Bass Player.

The reality is a good bass player is hard to find. In the Greater Philadelphia Region, Rick Reinhart is such a bassist. Rick plays in a variety of rock, funk and reggae bands, as well as, being a session player for recordings.

Q: What do you have to say about your biggest album 2012?
Rick Reinhart: Well, that was a really great experience for me. I had produced records with some really talented musicians before 2012 but this was a different kind of thing for me. All the music was made completely around the bass. I was also diving deep into the African American music scene in Philly. I had played in bands for 10 years all over the suburbs and was excited to really be diving into some fresh new things. I took influences on this album from Pink Floyd, Curtis Mayfield, Jack White, The Roots, John Frusciante, Parliment Funkadelic, Sam Cooke, 2pac Shakur and Gangstarr. Usually when I write songs, I have a feeling or a song title to go off of. For 2012, I wrote the bass lines first. Then, I tried to write lyrics with whatever was going on in my life at the time. Most of these songs are written about real women in my life. “Waiting For My Soulmate” was written for my girl I met at Panadelphia Art Party. “The Goddess Of Love” was written about a girl I met at Allgood Music Festival in 2011. “I Got A Girl” was written about this girl that I met at an open mic in Old City. “The Gambling Man” I wrote after a wild night in Atlantic City after blowing a friend’s money at the blackjack table. I remember feeling so awful that night that I remembered that feeling when writing “A gambling man ain’t got no soul”. I was coming into my own as an artist/bass player/songwriter/producer and was lucky enough to have a dream team of musicians with me.

Rick Tate (from The Roots Crew) played on Ewi and Saxophone and really put the icing on the cake for me. Rick is one of the best musicians in the tri-state area. Real down to earth guy, too.

Bobby Eli (Played on Bowie’s Fame, Young American) heavily involved in playing guitar/engineering/co-producing. Bobby Eli is the kind of musician who makes everybody else around him sound better. I really have a tremendous amount of respect for Bobby and the vibe of his studio, The Grooveyard.

Also, on the album is a keyboard player that I want to give a shout out to. Adam Flicker (American Babies) is one of the best keyboard players in Philly and plays all kinds of different styles. He helped out a lot with the layering on 2012.
